Goal Setting 2022.

As 2022 is here and many people would like to establish new goals, including me, I wanted to share some ideas on how you can manage the settings. For some reason, tons of people believe that the beginning of the New Year is the best time to establish some paths for the upcoming 12 months. People get new calendars, which are empty and waiting to be filled in.
The truth is… You don’t need to wait the entire year to set yearly goals; however, you need to wait for the idea of what you want to really achieve. If that comes at that time of the year, it is probably only a coincidence. If you have written nothing down yet in your new calendars, please don’t be disappointed.
Few rules before we can really begin with setting new goals:
Do not force yourself to set goals. Having New Year's Eve as the only day to select the new goals doesn’t make sense. You need to really get a good feeling about what you want to do, understand what it takes, and then select how you will make it.
First, start with the vision and value of what you want to achieve. Your weekly, monthly, or even yearly goals will disappear unless you will see bigger pictures when challenging times come. They always do. Why should you cook a healthy meal if you can buy Macdonald’s? Why should you wake up one hour earlier and go to the gym if you worked out two days ago, and today you got the exam? And so on.
Do not tell people what you are going to do, show them what you have done. One of the worst things you can do is to set goals and share them with your friends or family who are going to laugh at you. Your ceiling might be higher than others, but it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to get on top of it. For some reason, telling your goals most of the time ends only by saying what you wanted to do, and showing them how you made it, ends with completing your dreams, literally…
Can you follow those rules? If yes, let’s see how I always narrow down my goals.
I like to begin with the vision of where I would like to be in a few years from now, and what values I would like to have with me. Additionally, what values I would like to share with others. The funny thing is that sometimes the vision changes based on the experiences you got on the way. However, everything you have learned and applied to your life stays with you.
Next, I always think about yearly goals. What, how, and why I would like to achieve that this year. I literally write all goals on my phone, whatever comes to my mind. This way, I create a list of many goals, which most of the time will need shorter goals.
After having a draft of my one-year plan (sometimes even longer), I try to narrow them down, understand how I can achieve them, and what I need to do prior to that. By doing this, I can create my short-term goals; monthly, weekly, daily.
On top of that, I write in my journal to track my performance and see if I am getting every day closer to my goals. I track all my goals in the journal until I achieve my bigger goal.
Lastly, I create a word document and name it “MG GOALS 2022” and cross out every single goal that I have accomplished.
I found it very interesting to monitor my performance. Creating a project to monitor my hours of work and personal development has kept me on track for a long time. That’s why I highly suggest you take more time than once a year to think about your goals, how you can achieve them, and why there are important to you. It’s extremely hard to stay on track as we all get distracted by many people and life-changing situations. For that reason, finding excuses is way easier than actually staying on track with goals that have to be accomplished. Let’s do not make any excuses and achieve something great this year!
How are you choosing and keeping up with your goals? Any thoughts?
Best,
MG
